Gyre arrived on Station W3, located at depths of 875 m, at 18:53 GMT on May 14, 2000 and we finished all sampling at 6:10 GMT on May 15, 2000. We enjoyed watching a pod of dolphins ride on the bow waves as we maneuvered to this station. Retrieving the individual cores from the boxcore can get rather cold, considering that the water at the bottom is a cool 5.3 degrees Celsius. The new trawl net was ripped while towing at this station but we still caught some fish and invertebrates.
