| Wednesday the divers dove on Station 48 from the Fish Hut 19 that was
located roughly 10 meters from our randomly selected point. Samples were
collected from our designated location; the divers adjusted their position
under the ice relative to the existing hole. The first photo shows the location
of Station 48 relative to Dive Hut 19, the station is located at the flags
to the left of the dive hut. The second a photo taken near the Helipad,
in the confines of McMurdo Station, showing the dive tent over Station 53
and Dive Hut 19. Water samples were collected and a CTD hydrocast was taken.
The Reed Drill, that is used to make the large holes for the diving operations,
has been in the repair facility since last week and is scheduled to return
in service late Thursday. In the evening, Sally and Kristi we invited to
attend a field expedition to the ice caves located at the Erebus Ice Tongue.
They traveled to the ice caves in a Delta, photo 3 shows Sally in front
of the vehicle. Kristi is in the interior of an ice cave in photo 4. |
