Friday we occupied the first of the five holes that we drilled yesterday, Station 3 located in Winter Quarters Bay. This station is located on the other side of our marine sampling grid (note the small crossed flags in the photos). We chose to move here due to the fact that a lot of the station runoff is channeled into Winter Quarters Bay, making the ice softer and messier to get to. While the divers were down collecting samples, the air bubbles were coming up cracks in the ice around the dive tent. The divers collected sediment samples and some fish samples, Trematomus bernacchii and Trematomus pennelii. Water samples were also collected from this station.
