Sunday we planned
to begin the terrestrial part of our study. Our sampling goal is as
follows: 1) Re-occupy approximately 70 stations from Year 1 and Year
2 samplings. 2) Collect approximately 125 samples from the probabilistic
sampling scheme. 3) Assess the sub grid variability with a 5 m intensive
sampling plan. One of the sites chosen for the more intensive sampling
is the helipad. Sunday sampling is preferred since there was no operations
planned for this Sunday and we cannot sample during helicopter operations.
We randomly generated locations in a 5m sub-grid, entered the points
into the GPS unit and went our to the helipad for sampling. We were
able to locate one point and sample the location before we had some
GPS equipment problems, and then lost the differential signal, critical
for our sub-grid sampling.
This photo is from our first terrestrial sample showing the 1
square meter where the sample was collected.
