Genomic and Lipid Biomarker monitoring of Microbial Communities

Roger Sassen continues collaborating with Chuanlun Zhang of the University of Georgia trying to better understand how gas hydrate affects the biochemistry of extreme microbes that live in and on gas hydrate. The microbial processes can be studied by means of unusual organic compounds that some microbes produce in extreme environments of the deep sea. Drs. Sassen and Zhang have published several peer-review papers on the subject. The research is supported via the University of Mississippi from the National Institute for Undersea Technology and Science (NIUST).
